Looking for something fun to do with your family this weekend? Or want to grab a precious few minutes to yourself but aren’t sure how to manage it? Check out our list of five things you can do in and around your home this weekend for some inspiration and top tips.
1. Cycling with the family
Cycling is a favourite activity for us whatever the time of year, although the brighter weather and longer days of spring and beyond certainly make it an even more attractive prospect.
With your family along for the ride, fresh air and exercise can become a fun-filled adventure. You don’t need to go far from home to find lots to see and explore. Why not mix things up by turning right at the end of the road for once instead of left? You never know what your family will discover just metres from your doorstep.
And if your kids are in need of a little more entertainment, then there are tonnes of games you can play along the way. From ‘first one to spot a…’ to ‘I spy’, these games will keep them engaged and help to take the mind off tired little legs!
2. Cycling solo
Sometimes, you just need some alone time on your bike ride. When you’re cycling solo, you can fully concentrate on performance, challenge yourself to beat your best time or just enjoy the combination of you, a bike and the open road.
We’ve talked about the benefits of cycling for your body and mind before, but it really is a great way to get your heart pumping, get those endorphins flowing and give your mind a chance to unwind. A break from the four walls of your home could give you the space to work through an issue that’s been troubling you or allow you to find some much-needed perspective on challenges that once seemed insurmountable. You’ll return physically and mentally energised, and ready to launch into your next activity.
3. Enjoying the outdoors at home
If you’re lucky enough to have back garden (or even a front one!) then why not spend an afternoon, evening and night enjoying it? Setting up a garden adventure in your own backyard is easier than you might think.
First, break out the tents and sleeping bags so that you and your family can camp under the stars. Second, take the games outdoors with card games, outside toys or even a treasure hunt for the kids. Third, settle in for some wildlife watching. Even the smallest garden is still a haven for bugs, birds and animals, so there’ll be plenty to see!
4. BBQing in any weather
Another element you could add to your camping adventure is a good old British BBQ. The brighter weather and longer evenings of spring lend themselves perfectly to digging your BBQ out of the garage and setting it up for a chargrilled feast. Some garden-friendly plastic or enamel tableware, utensils and cutlery will make washing up easy and save your precious in-house crockery from any unexpected meetings with the ground!
As the great British weather is known to be a little unpredictable at times, it’s worth adding a gazebo into the mix to make sure that you can enjoy a family BBQ in your garden, whatever the weather.
5. Getting ready for days out and summer staycations
To prep your car for summer adventures, we’d recommend starting your prep work with our Free 5-Point Car Check or our £15 10-Point Car Check to make sure that everything’s working as it should.

Finally, no journey is complete without a way to keep the kids entertained, so next up is the in-car tech like sat navs, dash cams and stereos. If you’re taking your bikes, then you’ll need a bike rack to transport them safely and last, but not least, give yourself some extra room in the car with a roof box. We promise you won’t regret it.
