Summer is well underway in the UK! While the warmer weather is perfect for enjoying coastal adventures and family days out, getting your baby to sleep peacefully during these warmer months can be a real challenge.
Sleeping on-the-go
Babies don’t sleep on the same schedule as adults and often need more frequent naps throughout the day. That’s why it’s essential to make sure they have a comfortable and cool place to rest while you’re out and about.
The My Babiie MBX7 Auto-Fold Stroller is designed with warm weather in mind, making it perfect for summertime outings. It features a large, extendable UPF50+ canopy that provides excellent protection from the sun’s rays, while the built-in viewing window allows for even airflow and lets you keep a close eye on your little one. The multi-position reclining seat ensures your baby can lie back in an open position to stay cool. Combined with breathable fabrics and a soft suspension for a gentle ride, this stroller helps prevent overheating and keeps your baby comfortable wherever the summer takes you.
Sleeping at home
Keeping your baby cool at home can also be tricky during the hotter months. To help your little one sleep more comfortably, it’s a good idea to ventilate their room before bedtime. Open the windows during the evening to let in a cool breeze and bring the temperature down to a more comfortable level, but try and keep the curtains closed during the peak heat of the day (11am – 3pm). Light bedding made from breathable cotton materials can also help regulate your baby’s body temperature while they sleep, a cool bath before bed is also a good idea.
Make sure your babies cot is positioned away from direct sunlight, as early morning rays can warm up their room quickly and expose your baby to unnecessary heat, even through a glass window. When dressing your baby for bed, choose minimal layers and regularly check their chest and back to ensure they’re not too hot.
Choosing a breathable mattress will also help keep your baby from perspiring and becoming dehydrated during the night. We recommend picking up the miniuno Coolmax Pocket Spring Mattress as it features a luxuriously soft, breathable cover and Coolmax technology to release heat to keep your baby at the perfect temperature. It’s also hypoallergenic and anti-allergy to enhance their comfort and avoid irritation. The cover is also machine washable, so you can keep it fresh night after night.
If you’re at home, and you want to put your baby down to sleep in the day but it’s too hot in their room, you could put them in a cool room downstairs, on the opposite side of your home that the sun is facing. Because heat rises, and most homes in the UK are insulated to retain the heat upstairs, you might find that downstairs is the perfect pit stop for a nap.
By investing in the Joie Cheer Little Explorer Playpen which features mesh lined sides for excellent ventilation and a mattress for sleeping, you can move your baby around to find the coolest spot in your home so they can enjoy a much-needed siesta!
Sleeping in the car
We know that getting to and from our favourite holiday destination often requires ample time spent in the car. If your baby is travelling with you, ensure they’re in a comfortable seat that’s shaded from the sun.
The Maxi-Cosi Pebble 360 i-Size Car Seat is made from breathable foam and fabrics that encourage comfortable air circulation to ensure your baby remains at a healthy temperature while travelling, even on the hottest days of the year.
Sunshades
To keep the direct sunlight off their body to avoid skin damage and overheating, grab a pack of the Halfords Roller Sunshade (Pack of 2). By keeping the rays at bay, you’ll encourage your little one to nap, making the journey more peaceful and enjoyable for everyone.
